1st round - Brands Hatch
24-26 March 2006
That's right!!!
A return to winning ways straight out of the blocks with 25 points and
a championship lead for Craig Fitzpatrick.
Brands Hatch is
always one of Craigs favourites, so a win here is always on the cards.
It wasn’t without
its problems though as in free practice he crashed out at Paddock hill
bend – stupid boy!
It was a scramble
to get the bike sorted and reflected on Craigs qualifying and final grid
position. But when the lights went out he was confident he could pull
out a win and slotted into 2nd place into Paddock Hill.
The track conditions
were what could only be described as challenging, tricky conditions with
low ambient temperature that claimed victim to several experienced riders.
John Ingram being the first as he crashed out right in front of Craig
on the opening lap causing him to take avoiding action and loosing him
a place.
But it wasn’t
long until Craig soon took the lead and began to control the pace from
the front.
It was clear there
was a severe lack of grip and Craig had the company of Steve Allen, Adrian
Coates and Brendan Roberts breathing down his neck.
On lap 16 Steve
Alan thought he’d make a pass to which Craig maturely let him by so he
could see what he was up against. After following Steve for 2 laps he
was confident he could go for a win so re-took the lead on lap 19 and
didn’t look back. Putting in the fasted lap of the race he pulled a gap
this put the others out of reach and Craig kept his cool over the remaining
few laps and crossed the finish line with almost a 1sec lead.
Roll on Donington!
