3rd round - Mallory Park
22-24 April 2005
As expected Mallory
saw a very tight grid with less 5 hundreds of a second between pole position
and Craig in 6th position so it was inevitable that this would be a tight
race at a circuit where the average lap speed is very high. What couldn’t
be predicted however was the amount of stoppages throughout the day that
would see the race cut down to 14 laps instead of the scheduled 25 lap.
From the lights going out a good drive and the right line around the outside
saw Craig slot neatly into 3rd position and hopefully out of trouble for
Edwina’s chicane which had claimed 34 crashes today alone. Several changes
of position and a pace car later left Craig in a hard working but comfortable
third position with a birds eye view of local man Paul Young and Lee Jackson
several bike lengths in front, who at times were looking like they could
wipe each other out, with this in mind he was happy to wait and maybe
pick up the pieces, but with two vastly experienced Ex-Superbike riders
in front of him it didn’t happen, and apart from a near high-side at the
hairpin on the final lap saw Craig get a well earned and comfortable 2nd
podium of 2005.
