1st round -
British Superstocks - Sillverstone
The first round
at a BSB meeting took a bit of getting used to after the paddocks of the
New Era meetings from last year, all the big teams were there, it seems
very professional. Looking at some of the other teams turning up with
team banners and motorhomes, with budgets to suit was it was hard to be
positive about the task ahead. I have had a good build up to the season
after a very successful Daytona meeting with AMA superbikes but even so
it was very daunting.
After scrutineering
and first warm up I felt much better and got my head into the task at
hand. The list of riders in the this years superstock is long and distinguished
with some well known names looking like contesting the top spots. After
warm up I was 5th quickest and realised I could take on these guys and
hopefully beat a few of them, lots of guys I have raced against in the
past were struggling to qualify so I was very happy so far.
1st qualifying
went even better, I had a good race set-up and was confident I could run
at the front. In 2nd qualifying I was fastest in my group. - because of
the amount of riders contesting there were 2 groups in qualifying - when
combined this gives the final grid positions - I was 6th overall.
With our race
being the after the BSB races I had time to relax and prepare for the
race. Sitting on the grid I was feeling good and made a great start -
for most of the race I was in the lead pack and felt comfortable running
at the pace, A big 'moment' coming out of the new chicane throwing me
out of the seat - and happy to still be on board - lost me a few places
but I got my head together and kept pushing. Next lap, same spot - same
again! losing me a few more places but I settled down and finished a good
8th. I proved I can run on the pace with the 'big names' and made a few
people notice me - so much so that after the race my bike was checked
over by the scrutineers to make sure it was to the srtingent regulations
- which of coarse it was.
Over all I was
very happy with the results and am looking forward to the next round.
